1. Teams

Volleyball is played between two teams, each consisting of six players on the court. Additional players can be substituted during the game.

2. Objective

The objective is to score points by grounding the ball on the opponent's side of the court or by forcing the opponent to commit a fault.

3. Scoring

A point is awarded to the serving team if they win a rally. The first team to reach 25 points with a minimum two-point advantage wins a set. Matches are usually played as best-of-five sets.

4. Serve

The game starts with a serve. The server stands behind the end line and hits the ball over the net to the opponent's court. The serve must clear the net and land within the boundaries of the opponent's court.

5. Rally

After the serve, the teams have three hits (in addition to the block) to return the ball over the net. The ball must not touch the ground or go out of bounds. The team can hit the ball with any part of their body, but consecutive hits by the same player are not allowed, except for blocking.

6. Rotation

One of the most crucial volleyball rules involves player positioning on the court. Players rotate positions clockwise after winning a rally and gaining the right to serve. This ensures that all players have an opportunity to serve and play in different positions.

7. Faults

Various faults, which are volleyball rule violations, can occur during the game, resulting in a point for the opposing team. Some common faults include hitting the ball out of bounds, touching the net during play, stepping over the centerline, or committing a foot fault during the serve. These are all important volleyball rules that must be followed to avoid getting faults.

8. Substitutions

Teams are allowed a limited number of substitutions per set. Substituted players can enter the game at any dead ball situation.

9. Libero

A specialized defensive player known as the libero can be designated to wear a different colored jersey. The libero has certain restrictions, such as not being allowed to serve, spike, or rotate to the front row, another crucial examples of volleyball game rules.

10. Referees

Matches are officiated by referees who enforce the rules, make decisions, and ensure fair play.

These are the basic rules of volleyball, but there are additional regulations and variations depending on the level of play and the specific competition. It's always recommended to familiarize yourself with the specific rules of the tournament or league you are participating in or watching.
